DeeAnna Brown is a Child loss mom turned nurse, Author, Grief Support Professional, and Facilitator. Born and raised in Milwaukee, she now resides in Phoenix, AZ.
After experiencing the loss of her five year old daughter, Milan, DeeAnna became committed to seeing child-loss parents receive quality support throughout America’s healthcare systems. She truly understands the challenges surrounding child loss and believes in sharing her story to help both parents, and nurses, like her.

DeeAnna began a personal project to directly make a change. She began by surveying 135 nurses to discover their comfort level in supporting the family unit of terminal patients. To her surprise, approximately only 20% of the nurses surveyed shared that they felt confident in supporting the family of terminal patients. She then dove deeper and specifically surveyed child-loss parents to discuss one very important topic. What do parents experiencing child-loss really need from their bedside nurse?
In DeeAnna’s new book, When a Child is Dying and You’re the Nurse, she addresses not only the common needs of child-loss parents, but she digs deeper. She goes on to also share twelve bedside strategies for nurses to improve the quality of care surrounding pediatric end of life.
